Today we decided to head off to Nevada and see the Valley of Fire. It's about an hour drive down I15 toward Vegas, and then you take a left at Overton where Chayse's grandparents used to have a house and drive straight through. It was something my aunt had read about it and wanted to check it out. I was hoping that I would be alright to do so and enjoy the hike.
And yay!! Things worked in our favor. My legs were pretty achey, but working through with the pain meds and the concoctions I have been using, I was able to get places. I had also been using some of doterra's "deep blue" on my aches and it has really been helping. It sure does take some trial and error to get things sorted out. Sure, my legs weren't the best by the end of the hike, but we made it!
Chayse carried Pippa in our hiking backpack and she did pretty well. She wanted to get out and walk about but we tried to keep her in so we could continue to move along on the trail. It had some really neat petroglyphs on the rocks and beautiful formations with the rocks. The kids enjoyed the sights and did well on our adventure.
After the 2 hour hike, we made it back to the start and the kids started to really play in the sandy pathway. They made sand angels and were really enjoying themselves. We let them play for a good 15 minutes before getting back to the car and trying to dust them off as best they can. Mom and Dad continued on to Vegas with Jill to take her to the airport. She was here for about 10 days and it sure went by quickly. We are glad that she came over as soon as her retirement began and we had a lot of fun with her around. She gets the party started and is fun to chat with. I am glad she took the time away from her family to come and visit us. We said bye and safe travels, and then we headed back home as we (I) wouldn't have been able to handle the other half of the afternoon/evening before her flight.
On the way back with the kids, we stopped at the diner we last went with Chayse's grandparents before their Overton house sold. We had to be nostalgic and go there for our late lunch. It took forever to get our food! About 40 minutes later we find out that it is a big day in the crazy town of Overton. It's their big city-wide (town-wide maybe?) garage sale and play at the high school. The ONE DAY A YEAR it gets crowded in the city and things have slower service. By the time we finished eating our (yummy) food, we could have been home. But we were a bit late in finding out how slow the service would be. The kids ate all their food though so we did treat them to the yummy ice cream they have afterward. The 90 minute drive back went by quickly and we hurried to get that sand off our bodies once arriving home. It's nice to get some adventures in with my crew and remind me of the goodness that is around us in this world.
That evening we went to the Bodily's reception. Their son got married today and we were able to give our congrats and say hi. They are a great family to know and have been friends for years. Their daughter has babysat for us for a few years now and it was fun to celebrate a little bit with them. The kids had a good time dancing a bit and saying hi to old neighbors. We have been blessed to have some great and wonderful people in our lives.
